Computerization of RSB & ZSB

Every year, large number of Defence Personnel including Officers join the ranks of Ex-servicemen in Punjab, Majority of them retire at young age between 30 to 45 years to maintain the youthful profile of the Armed Forces. They constitute a National asset a vast human reserve that is disciplined, trained and developed to exacting standards. This vibrant human resource available in Punjab, if untapped will be a wastage, which we can ill afford.

The Rajya Sainik Board and Zila Sainik Boards, cater to the needs of Approx 2,98,443 Ex-servicemen & Widows (excluding their dependents). It looks after the welfare of approximately 5.00 Lac members. For the Rehabilitation of Ex-servicemen, Widows and their dependents, it was felt necessary to computerize and digitize the available data and bring it on an interactive website so that the information could be made available to everybody.

The total project cost is Rs. 90 Lacs. Out of the total project cost Department of Information Technology, Punjab released share of Rs. 45.00 Lacs. Rs. 20.00 Lacs were spent during 2004-05 remaining Rs. 25.00 Lacs spent during Current Financial Year 2005-06 and Rs. 45.00 Lacs of Centre’s Share are being contributed by Government of India so that continuity in the turn-key project is maintained

In the 1st Phase has been completed successfully and 47 computers with accessories were purchased and installed at 17 locations of Punjab and District HQs. This hardware is being used to Generate Reports like grant of benefits to War Widows, Payment of Ex-gratia grant, grants to Gallantry Awardees, Old Age Pension to 65 year old ESM etc and includes sending and receiving E-mail from various districts of Punjab. Email ID has been allotted to 17 Locations. Application Software for Ex-servicemen/Widows has been developed for data capture, collation, digitization and authentication to create a databank and 1,62,536 records have been captured/digitized in this Application Software till date.
